Are you doing everything you can to put Veterans to work?
I’m asking everyone that question, particularly today, because it’s Veterans Day. Nearly 2.6 million servicemen and women have or are serving in the Middle East and around the world. And for returning Vets transitioning out of the service, the unemployment rate is 6.9 percent. That’s astonishing and unacceptable. I’ve made my case in previous blog posts, to the media and through my franchise presentations why our soldiers are uniquely equipped to own franchises—one in seven franchises are owned by veterans—and to work in franchise businesses. I urge all franchisors to get on board the International Franchise Associations “Operation Enduring Opportunity” initiative. Since 2011, we’ve created jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities for more than 150,000 veterans and their spouses. That is a to-be-proud-of accomplishment, but it’s not high and far enough. On this Veterans Day, I urge you to re-commit yourself and your available resources to help us reduce the unemployment rate among veterans, to strengthen our franchise community by hiring veterans for their discipline and adherence to structure, and to demonstrate to our elected officials that franchising and small business are the engine that leads and drives the economy. To all you veterans, thank you for your courage and service to our country. God bless you.
